Qi’s Master’s project My Nurse is a prototype for a remote health monitoring and online community network system combining a physical interface and digital TV. It has been developed for patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Patients use a simple bespoke input device to record symptoms allowing health practitioners to remotely monitor and manage symptoms via a secure webpage. Patients can see their health condition graphs on the TV screen. Health Practitioners can alert the patients if they need to see a practitioner based in the data gathered. My Nurse also allows patients to share information to each other through an online chat and group video service through their TV.
Qi Qu studied industrial design at Wuhan University of Technology, China. She has experience of interface and interaction design. Qi’s projected was supported by Dr Roma Maguire, Senior Research Fellow from the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Dundee, Product Deesigner Polly Duplock, nurses from Ryehill Health Centre, Dundee and staff from Ninewells Hospital and the Patients Group from British Lung Foundation.
