Unpacking Interdisciplinary Design: Haoyu Zheng

How can a designer create an interdisciplinary design object? Project ‘Unpacking Interdisciplinary Design’ attempts to demonstrate the difference in approach between two design disciplines.

Through designing functional furniture for co-working in independent design studios, I explored a process which is about creating an inter-disciplinary design object between product and furniture. It is a step by step introduction with relevant methodologies and can be further developed as a toolkit for designers to create more functional furniture.

The object I designed is a customisable desk and display system.

Thanks to Polly Duplock, Product Designer and desigers Genna Delaney and Islay Spalding, for their contributions to my project.

Haoyu Zheng has a BA in Industrial Design from Jiangnan University in China. She plans to work for manufacturers as a designer and apply what she has learnt to design practice.
