Dr. Qin Han 2006

Qin graduated from the Master of Design Programme in 2006. Qin is now User Experience Architect at LBi, London. She was very recently behind the organisation of one of the biggest global service design event: Global Service Jam – with over 70 attendees at the London event creating and prototyping ‘Superhero’ services in 48 hours. http://www.gsjamlondon.org.uk/
Her Masters project looked at wayfinding. She worked as a Teaching Fellow on the Master of Design programme promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and people-centred design research whilst studying for a PhD under Professor Tom Inns and Bill Nixon. Before moving to Britain, she studied Computer Science and Technology at Tongji University, China. Her interdisciplinary and international experience in teaching, research and design practice contributes to her unique perspective on the future of design and its contribution to organisation and innovation. Malavika Limaye 2010 After  graduation I did an internship in London – I am now working in Mumbai, with this wonderful company called Ideaspice as a communication designer. It is a mediumish setup with offices in a few places all over the world. The work is pretty exciting and the number of projects I am working on are so varied. From Channel V, to the Bahrain Interior ministry, to a cake shop in Dubai! Its all quite exciting and I get to meet up with clients one on one.

Lauren Currie 
2009

Lauren is the co-director of Snook; a social innovation and service design outfit based in Glasgow.

Lauren’s Masters Project examined how Service Design can reach a range of stakeholders. Lauren also researched older users needs for a European telecom company’s research lab. With an enthusiasm for service design, design thinking and working with the public, Lauren Currie passionately believes that designers have the ability to assist social and cultural change. Lauren is focused on changing the lives of Scottish people through service design and practical action.

Since Snook formed in 2009 they have been leading the provision of Service Design application to projects in Scotland at a National Level, including explorations into the future of libraries and the role technology has to play in the context of community hubs. Alongside their consultancy work for clients such as Skills Development Scotland, NHS Scotland and Renfrewshire Council they are also delivering and piloting their own service with Tayside Police – MyPolice is an online feedback tool that enables the public and the police to have a conversation. Jumi Kim 2009

Jumi works for Cheil Worldwide a subsiduary of Samsung. She
works in the Brand Experience Group which is charge of exhibitions for Samsung.

Jumi studied industrial design at Honik University in Seoul, South Korea before spending five years working as a lighting and gift designer.  Jumi’s developed tools to involve people in  the redesign of learning spaces on the Masters Programme at Dundee.

Ceara McCurdy 2010

For my Masters project, I developed A Spoonful of Movies: a toolkit and website for teachers of Level 2 primary children (7-11 years old) to promote and facilitate the use of storyboarding and film editing in the classroom. The project aims to develop storytelling skills with children and enhance their literacy and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) skills. The toolkit adheres to the new Curriculum for Excellence within Scottish Primary schools, aiding teachers with this educational transition. I was given fantastic support and advice given by Margaret Foley, Quality Improvement Officer in the Department of Education at Dundee City Council. Spoonful of Movies is now available as a teaching resource for teachers in all primary schools in Dundee City.
Ceara is from Northern Ireland, and has an Undergraduate degree in Interactive Media Design from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee.

Ryan McLeod 2010

In September 2010 Ryan joined digital agency Equator in Glasgow as part of their design team

For my Masters project, I worked alongside Graham Pullin, author of Design Meets Disability (MIT Press) to develop Speech Hedge: a system that will revolutionise the way people use speech synthesisers. Speech synthesisers take text input and create audio output giving people who cannot speak the ability to communicate.  In July 2010 I presented my project at the International Symposium for Assistive and Augmented Communication (ISAAC 2010) conference in Barcelona.  More here.

Ryan has an undergraduate degree in Interactive Media Design from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design at Dundee University.

Frances Brown 2010

Frances is studying for a PhD in Design Thinking and Innovation in Enterprise Education at Coventry University

Great Expectations focuses on a review of the current provision of enterprise support in the top 50 UK Higher Education Institutions for Art and Design.  The review highlights current challenges, benefits and best practice for Higher Education enterprise support to improve the enterprising potential of UK Art and Design graduates. I worked with NESTA to create a Design Thinking Toolkit for their Enterprise Supporters website.
Frances has a BA (Hons) in Fashion Design, Marketing and Promotion from Huddersfield University and has entrepreneurial experience as owner of Something Boutique and Frances Brown Jewellery.

Divya Kymal 2008

On graduation, Divya secured a job with Idiom Designs in Bangalore, the leading product and service design company in India and now runs her own company jointfamily

Divya studied graphic design in Chennai, India. Her master’s project considered how the University of Dundee can communicate a clear and consistent message to international applicants.
